Procedures

Provided below are descriptions of some of the procedures performed in this area of specialization:

Colonoscopy

A thin, flexible tube is used to examine the large intestine for polyps that may lead to colon cancer.

Upper GI Endoscopy

A small video camera housed at the end of a thin, flexible tube is navigated to the esophagus, stomach and/or small intestine.

Esophageal Manometric Motility Study

A test focused on the muscles of the esophagus and muscles originating at the bottom of the esophagus.

Esophageal 24-hour pH Study

Day-long lower esophageal data obtained for heartburn patients

BARRX HALO Ablation System

A potentially curative approach for Barrett’s Esophagus. The device performs a controlled thickness burn of the lining to allow re-growth of normal epithelial lining.

Video Capsule Endoscopy

A device swallowed by the patient creates images of the digestive system that can be viewed via computer.

Needle Liver Biopsy

The removal of a small sample of the liver to check for signs of damage or disease.
